This is the face of Type 1 Diabetes (inability to produce insulin). Notice the pump attached to her hip. She was diagnosed with T1D at age 2. There are nights that her alarm goes off and her parents have to give her an insulin correction or she could die. If she's too high, she can die... if she's too low - SHE CAN DIE. It's a constant balancing act and the disease does not take any time off. She is a rock star! At age 7 she is an ambassador for JDRF = fighting for a cure. My children are just trying to decide what toy to play with or what cartoon to watch next. She is fighting for her life and others like her. This is why I donate to JDRF - to help find a cure for T1D so families like hers no longer have to suffer. For every Sid the Sasquatch book sold, a portion of the proceeds are donated to JDRF (and Children's Mercy as well).
